HOPE EVERYONE HAD A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS AND IS LOOKING FORWARD TO AN EVEN BETTER NEW YEAR.
This newsletter is going to be short this month, I'm way behind because of the holidays and also having another daughter
move here to Thayer ;-).
Sorry, I need to get this in the mail to you all, so the minutes will have to be read at the next meeting, or you can
see them on the website once I get them transcribed.
NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be at the Stateline Restaurant at 7 pm on January 4th. The new officers will be installed and start
planning events for the 2007 year. Please come and give us your ideas. The club can only be as responsive as all the members
make it.
ELECTIONS
After some discussion on just how to hold elections, they were done with a show of hands by members present ( there were
quite a few members there, thanks for showing up). The results are;
* Ronnie Simms elected President
* Pete Cooper elected Vice-President
* Leza Smith elected Secretary
* Michelle Simms elected Treasurer
We will need folks willing to serve as chairpersons for Shows, Playdays, Trail Rides, and any other strings of happenings
we decide to have next year.
DUES - MEMBERSHIPS
There is a new membership application enclosed. It has a release form and will need to be signed and returned, just a
check won't do it this year, sorry, but the insurance companies are getting very picky about everything these days. On a family
membership, all adults need to sign.
It was voted to raise the dues to at least cover the cost of producing and mailing out newsletters to members. They are
$18.00 family and $12.00 individual.

spring by the current officers and was pleased that it angered some members enough to get them to come to meetings now.

Sage thoughts
At the last meeting Ronnie Simms made a very good speech about the direction of the club. He had many good things to say,
but this thought has stayed in my mind.
"We are all busy, slow down long enough to swing a leg over a horse and everything gets ok again".

Meeting will be at the Stateline Restaurant at 7pm. Please come and bring your ideas about events, trail rides, clinics
etc. that you would like to see happen next year.

NEW CLUB WEBSITE
Leza has put together a basic website for the club. My apologies for the very long URL name, but it’s the avenue
I had available to get one up and running for free for the club. I've promoted it on the web, so you should be able to do
a Google search for Thayer Mammoth Saddle Club and get an answer for a directory listing at Searchlight. If you just click
that it will give you a page with the club listing and my farm listing. Click the club and it will take you to the website.
Once you get there you can just bookmark it in your favorites for future use.
I need help with the club history and would love to put up some photos, new or old of club events and members.
If you can help out I'd sure appreciate it.
When we have upcoming events, I'll post any cancellations or changes.
There is a calendar of events, as well as past newsletters also available.
There is an interactive box on the home page so you can easily communicate with me. All feedback and ideas are welcomed...
FUTURE GUEST COLUMN
During the winter, when club news is slow, I thought it might be a good idea to have any of you members who have something
horse related to share with the club, have a spot here in the newsletter
I'll start out with part of an article sent out by Dr. Shaw that I found interesting.
DID YOU KNOW THAT YOUR HORSE CAN SUFFER FROM GRASS FOUNDER JUST AS EASILY IN THE FALL AS THE SPRING?

LAST FUN SHOW FOR THE SEASON
The last Fun Equine Show will be on Saturday October 28th.
Show up at 5 or 5:30 and sign up at 6. Show is scheduled to start a 7 but it wouldn't hurt to get rolling a little earlier,
it's getting chilly.
We have 22 classes and events, plus the mystery event, it's just a guess, but I'm thinking COSTUME CLASS!!
Western wear for the show classes. Bring your coggins papers.

Talked more about plans and needed tasks for the Family Rodeos, Fun shows and necessary repairs and up-keep on the arena.
Scheduled a workday.

WORK DAY – WITH RIB EYE STEAKS!!
We will have a work day in the evening on Thursday Sept 14th. It will start at 5 pm and go till whenever we get done with
all the tasks.
Pete Cooper has generously offered to bbq a rib eye steak for every member who shows up and works. You probably won’t
get a better offer this week.
Seriously folks, we are really trying to make the club and arena a fun, nice place to be. Come on down and help out and afterwards,
visit a little and eat great bbq.
Call Barb or Pete @ 870-625-3656 to see what you can do to help and to reserve your steak.
HORSE PULL
The club hosted a fantastic Horse Pull event. If you missed it this time, we’ll do our best to have another next year.
I (Leza) spent most of the evening in the cookshack helping out, but was able to slip out and watch for a while and those
draft horses were just awesome. The winning team pulled a sled with over 10,000 lbs on it. It was a unique experience and
was most enjoyable.
The turnout was very good, thanks to Jack Howell who worked tirelessly to get the word out. Flyers for the pull were just
about everywhere you could go.
It gave the club a much needed boost to our bank account.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO JACK HOWELL FOR MAKING THIS EVENT HAPPEN.
FUN SHOWS AND PLAYDAYS
There will be a Fun Equine Show on Sept 23rd and on Oct 28th. Signups at 6 pm, shows at 7pm. There are all kinds of events
for both kids and adults. Come on down and have some family fun. Show your horse off, play some horse games and take home
a nice ribbon or two.
We also have informal playdays on the 3rd Thursday of each month until it gets too cold in the evenings. We ride, visit, eat,
ride some more, and
play games if there are enough of us willing.
RAWHIDE FAMILY RODEO SERIES
The club has been hosting the Rawhide Family Rodeos; by the time you get this you may have just missed the 2nd one of the
series. They are oriented towards having the whole family be able to participate, without the super dangerous stuff. If you
want that, go to a big bull bust instead.
There are events for young and old, many are a lot of fun, and the whole atmosphere seems to want to make most of us join
in and make a spectacle of ourselves. When was the last time you spent a whole evening being entertained by, and enjoying
and laughing at your neighbors and friends.
The October 7th rodeo will be advertised by big colorful posters and also be on the radio, so take note of the date again
when you see one of their great posters.
THANKS FOLKS
A few members have been making a super-human effort to pick this club up by the boot straps lately.
Thanks to Pete Cooper, Barb Howell, Ronnie & Michelle Simms, Ashley Forrester, Dean Tabor, John McIntare. If I’ve forgotten
anyone, sorry, you all deserve a big “thanks!!!”. The chutes are workable, the arena drains when it rains and
the grass is cut. It’s become a nice place to bring your horse and have an enjoyable day or evening.
GREAT JOB YOU ALL.
